Thanet Parkway railway station is a railway station under construction[1] that will serve the Manston Airport site, Discovery Park Enterprise Zone and development sites around Cliffsend. It is due to open in May 2023.[2]

History

In 2012, the developer Cogent announced a planned 800-home development at Manston Green, which would include a Parkway Station on the Ashford - Canterbury - Ramsgate Line. The new station would also serve Kent International Airport via a bus link.[3] A planning application for this was due to be submitted before the end of 2013.[3]

In 2013, Manston Airport announced plans for a new railway station and high-speed line to serve its long-term expansion plans.[4] However, Manston Airport closed on 15 May 2014.[5]

Current proposal

The current proposal by Kent County Council (KCC) is for a Thanet Parkway station on the Ashford - Canterbury - Ramsgate Line, but to the west of Cliffsend.[6] This proposal by KCC underwent public consultation in 2015 and was granted planning permission in 2020.[7] Preliminary ground clearance work started in early 2021.

Proposed services

Proposed services from Manston include a high-speed service from Ramsgate, connecting with High Speed 1 at Ebbsfleet International.[4]
