Nishiwakishi Station opened on October 22, 1913 as Nomura Station (野村駅, Nomura-eki). With the privatization of the Japan National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987, the station came under the aegis of the West Japan Railway Company. It was renamed to its present name on March 31, 1990.[1]The Kajiya Line, closed in 1990, originated at this station.
In fiscal 2019, the station was used by an average of 822 passengers daily[2]
