Chiyokawa Station is served by the San'in Main Line (Sagano Line), and is located 25.2 kilometers from the terminus of the line at Kyoto.
The station consists of two opposed side platforms connected to the station building by a footbridge. The station is staffed.

Chiyokawa Station opened on July 20, 1935. With the privatization of the Japan National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987, the station came under the aegis of the West Japan Railway Company. The current station building was completed in April 2021.
In fiscal 2019, the station was used by an average of 2153 passengers daily.[1]
