La stazione

La stazione venne aperta nel 1906 ed il suo nome ricorda Joseph François Dupleix, (Landrecies 1697 — Parigi 1763), amministratore e colonizzatore francese. Governatore generale della Compagnie des Indes nel 1742, egli sviluppò la posizione commerciale della Francia lottando contro l'influenza inglese. Nonostante il Trattato di Aquisgrana (1748), egli realizzò un protettorato francese sul sud dell'Altopiano del Deccan che gli inglesi disfecero. Nel 1754, venne richiamato in Francia e le sue fortune, che aveva totalmente investito in India, andarono completamente perse.

Dupleix (French pronunciation: ​[dyplɛks]) is an elevated station on line 6 of the Paris Métro in the 15th arrondissement. The track and station form an elevated viaduct in the centre of boulevard de Grenelle. It is named after the nearby rue Dupleix and Place Dupleix, a square commemorating Joseph François Dupleix (1967-1763), marquis of Landrecies and Paris, an administrator and coloniser of India. The station was the location of the Barrière de Grenelle, a gate built for the collection of taxation as part of the Wall of the Farmers-General; the gate was built between 1784 and 1788 and was demolished in the nineteenth century.[1][2][3]
