Der Würzburger Hauptbahnhof (abgekürzt Würzburg Hbf) ist ein Fernverkehrsbahnhof in der unterfränkischen Regierungsbezirkshauptstadt Würzburg. Er entstand 1863 im Norden der Innenstadt als Ersatz für den früheren Ludwigsbahnhof im Stadtzentrum, dessen Kapazitäten nach der drastischen Zunahme des Eisenbahnverkehrs ausgeschöpft waren. Noch heute ist der Würzburger Hauptbahnhof mit 28.000 Reisenden pro Tag[1] bayernweit einer der bedeutendsten Bahnhöfe, da er im Schnittpunkt mehrerer stark frequentierter Schienenverkehrsachsen liegt. Insbesondere sind die Strecken in Nord-Süd-Richtung von Hamburg und Bremen nach München sowie in West-Ost-Richtung aus den Metropolregionen Rhein-Ruhr und Rhein-Main nach Nürnberg und Wien von Bedeutung. Würzburg ist neben Aschaffenburg der zweite unterfränkische und im Taktverkehr bediente ICE-Bahnhof. Der Stadt und dem Landkreis Würzburg dient der Hauptbahnhof durch seine Verknüpfung von Eisenbahn-, Straßenbahn- und Omnibusverkehr als wichtigste Drehscheibe des öffentlichen Nahverkehrs.[en] Würzburg Hauptbahnhof
Würzburg Hauptbahnhof is a railway station for the city of Würzburg in the German state of Bavaria. It was opened in 1864[5] to the north of the inner city as a replacement for the former Ludwigsbahnhof (Ludwig's station) in the city centre, the capacity of which had been exhausted by the dramatic increase of rail traffic. Even today, Würzburg station is one of the major stations in Bavaria, since it lies at the intersection of several heavily used rail corridors. In particular, the routes in the north–south direction from Hamburg and Bremen to Munich as well as in west–east direction from the Rhine-Ruhr and Rhine-Main to Nuremberg and Vienna. Apart from Aschaffenburg Hauptbahnhof, Würzburg is the only station in Lower Franconia to be served by Intercity-Express services.
