Neuchâtel railway station (French: Gare de Neuchâtel) serves the municipality of Neuchâtel, the capital city of the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Opened in 1857, it is owned and operated by SBB-CFF-FFS.

Location

The station forms part of one of Switzerland's most important railway lines, the Jura foot railway (Olten–Genève-Aéroport), which is one of two routes used by intercity trains between Geneva and Zürich. It is also a junction for SBB-CFF-FFS lines to Le Locle and Pontarlier, and for the BLS line from Bern.[1]

Location

Neuchâtel railway station is situated at Place de la Gare to the north east of the city centre, about a 15-minute walk from the central pedestrian zone. The Funambule funicular links the station to the lower part of the town, near the University.

As of the December 2021 timetable change,^[update] the following services stop at Neuchâtel:[2]

• InterCity:
  • hourly service between Lausanne and Zürich Hauptbahnhof.
  • hourly service between Geneva Airport and Rorschach.
• InterRegio: hourly service between La Chaux-de-Fonds and Bern.
• RegioExpress:
  • hourly service to Le Locle.
  • three trains per day to Frasne, connecting with the Paris–Lausanne TGV Lyria service.
• Regio:
  • hourly to half-hourly service to Biel/Bienne.
  • half-hourly service to Buttes.
  • half-hourly service to Corcelles-Peseux.
  • hourly service to Gorgier-St-Aubin, with rush-hour trains continuing to Yverdon-les-Bains.
• RER Fribourg S20 / Bern S-Bahn S5: hourly service to Fribourg or Bern and hourly service on weekdays to Romont.
