Gorakhpur Cantonment (also known as GKC or Gorakhpur Cantt.) is a railway station in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was originally constructed in 1914 [citation needed]. It is currently electrified, with a double electric line track.[1] It is classified as a regular station type.[1] It has 3 platforms with 32 halting trains.[1] It is located in north-eastern India, close to the border of Nepal. It forms part of the North Eastern Zone and part of the Lucknow NER division.[1]

Gorakhpur Cantonment station, along with Gorakhpur Junction forms part of the Gonda Loop, built by the Bengal and North Western Railway from 1886-1905.[2] Along with Gorakhpur Junction, Domingarh, Kushmi, Nakaha jungle, Maniram, Sahjanwa, Unaula, Sihapar, and Jagatbela are other stations within the city limits of Gorahkpur.[2]


It is likely to be electrified by May 2015 when Chhapra - Gorakhpur section's electrification will be commissioned. [2][verification needed] Gorakhpur cantonment railway station is the second largest railway station in Gorakhpur after Gorakhpur Junction. After electrification of Chhapra - Gorakhpur - Lucknow section train density of passenger and goods, both will increase across Gorakhpur Cantonment and station may need remodeling.
