The station primarily serves Washington University's West Campus, The Ritz-Carlton Saint Louis, and downtown Clayton.

In 2006, Metro's Arts in Transit program commissioned the work Hoi Polloi by Lindsey Stouffer for installation in the station. The perforated stainless steel screens provide some protection from the elements and when viewed from a distance, the screens’ perforations create an optical illusion known as the moiré effect, and appear to shimmer as people walk by.  At night, interior lights allow the screens to glow from within, diffusing light like enormous lanterns.[3]

Station layout

The platforms are accessed by a set of stairs on the south side of Forsyth Boulevard and an additional set of stairs and switchback ramps on the north side of Forsyth. Half of the platform is located underneath the Forsyth overpass for shelter.
