History

The station was opened on 1 May 1879 by the North British Railway. To the west was the goods yard. There were two signal boxes: Bellshill North, which was situated to the north and Bellshill South Signal Box, which was to the south and north of Rosehall South Signal Box. A branch opened in 1900, allowing access to the Hattonrig Colliery pits. The station closed on 1 January 1917 but reopened on 2 June 1919. The signal boxes closed in 1945 and the station closed permanently on 10 September 1951.[1][2]
